WHSAA Mentoring Program

Western High School Alumnae Association has partnered with Western High School and Big Brother/Big Sisters of Central Maryland to form a mentoring program for interested tenth grade students. The mentors are alumnae who volunteer their time and talents to act as big sisters getting involved in educational and social activities and events with their little sisters.

Both the Alumnae and students must be interviewed by Big Brother/Big Sister Program Specialist to determine a match of personality and talents. They meet once a month as a group and as many times as scheduled as a pair, "Big and Little".

Remarks About 2004-2006 Mentoring Program

The mentoring program of 2004-2006 was led by Kendra Lyles then Juernene Smith, of WHSAA and Rebecca Davis then Jessica Harrington of BB/BS of Central MD.

Alumnae who volunteered their time and talents as "Big Sisters" were:
Aimee Ayers-Spell
Akilah Bell
Akia Bellamy
Barbara Golaski
Brittany Anuszkiewicz
Catonya Lester
Juanita Moore
Juernene Smith
Laura Myers
Nicole Requer
Rasheda Brown
Sheila Howard

Many sincere thanks go to these Ladies who gave unselfishly of themselves to "give light" to the lives of their little sister.

Now we embark on another term and we are in need of a Mentoring Program Chair to lead the program forward. Will it be YOU?
If not the committee chair, then will you be a "Big Sister"? Download the application, complete and submit it to begin the match process. And you have the opportunity to stay matched with your Little all the way through to the twelveth grade and beyond. Building relationships that last a lifetime!
